  • The Murat Centre is the largest shopping district in Puglia. Here you can find almost anything - it's a must for those that like to splash their hard-earned cash.
  • Just outside the old city, overlooking the harbour, visit the Norman Swabian Castle for a slice of Bari history. Entry: €5 (Piazza Fredrico di Svevia).
  • For those that like to potter around shops and cafés, at this time of year the Old Town is well worth a look. All the shops and stalls are in full bloom and heaving with goodies to take home.
  • Spend a few hours exploring the underground cave system at Castellana Grotte. This amazing natural wonder is truly breathtaking (Piazza Anelli Franco. Tel. 080 499 8211‎).

  • Bari was founded by the ancient Greeks well over 2,000 years ago and up until the turn of the last century, you could still find Greek speakers everywhere. In the town of Galatina, Greek was the first language.
