Airport Information


  • Holiday Taxis (easyJet.holidaytaxis.com) take you from home to the airport, then city or destination.

  • Buses go to the city every 30 minutes and the 25-minute journey costs about €1.25.

  • Visit the Europcar desk on arrival for special easyJet inflight rates.

  • A taxi to the centre costs about €28.

  • Euskal Jaiak sells all kinds of weird and wonderful things. From masks, wigs and colourful confetti to party games and magic tricks. A great place to pick up a souvenir with a difference (1 Aanta María. Tel. 94 415 7296).
  • Top-class blues musicians from around the world play at the Getxo International Blues Festival. There are two concerts each night, as well as marching bands. Many events are free, so make sure you arrive early (1-5 July. www.jazzeuskadi.com).
  • Head to one of the popular fiestas that take place all through the summer in the Basque Country. Nearby Balmaseda celebrates from 13-24 July.
  • Take the metro to Plentzia and spend a morning walking in the countryside and a lazy afternoon sunbathing on the beach. In the evening, you can sit outside a beach bar with a jug of cold beer.

Tips

  • Look out for herri kirolak (rural games) at summer fiestas, with traditional sports including bale tossing, wood chopping and tug of war. In the stone-lifting event, Basque strongmen have been known to hoist 300-kilogramme rocks onto their shoulders.
