  • Spend Sunday morning hunting for bargains and meeting people from all cultures at El Rastro de Juan Rodriguez Doreste - a Sunday market with an explosion of colours and smells. Have fun bartering (9am-2pm. Calle Pi y Margall, Las Palmas).
  • The Museo Canario archives the aboriginal Guanche population of Gran Canaria. It also houses a collection which includes the mummified remains of Guanches, as well as relics such as pottery and stone tools. A fascinating insight into the history of the island (2 Dr Verneau, Vegueta).
  • Puerto Mogan is a delightful fishing village on the west coast, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants overlooking the marina. There are excellent facilities for water sports, diving and fishing. On a clear day, you can even see Tenerife.
  • Escape from the hussle and bustle of the beach and go diving. Chill out at the bottom of the sea with Sunset Divers' PADI-registered instructors. An experience not to be missed (www.sunsetdiversgc.com).
