Airport Information


  • Holiday Taxis (easyJet.holidaytaxis.com) take you from home to the airport, then city or destination.

  • The Aerobus leaves every 20 minutes from 7.45am-8.45pm. It's about 20 minutes to the centre. Tickets: €3.

  • Visit the Europcar desk on arrival for special easyJet inflight rates.

  • It's about 20 minutes to the centre and costs €12-€15.

  • Artefacto is a newly opened small gallery and shop dedicated to the best in contemporary Portuguese handcrafts (10 Calçada da Graça. Tel. 21 887 3175).
  • The Killers, Duffy and The Walkmen are playing at the Restelo stadium on 18 July, while at the Pavilhão Atlântico (Atlantic Pavilion) you can catch Kylie Minogue (4), The Eagles (22) and Leonard Cohen (30).
  • The old summer capital, Sintra, is a short train journey from the centre of town and you can see why the royal family and those who could afford it made it their getaway. Palaces, museums, gardens and stupendous views.
  • Meco beach makes for a great day away from the city's hustle and bustle. About 40 minutes south by car or bus, there's a nudist beach, healing clay baths and good restaurants in the village nearby.

Tips

  • You can't help but notice the wonderful designs on the city's pavements. They are made up of thousands of tiny marble and basalt stones and are executed by craftsmen, known as calceteiros, employed by the city council.
