  • At Spagnuolo you will find a wide variety of locally crafted ceramics, including deals on genuine Capodimonte porcelain (49 Via Benedetto Croce. Tel. 081 552 1102).
  • Music fans should head to the Carpisa Neapolis festival at the Flegrea Arena, with a line-up of local Italian rock bands and international acts. There's also a music expo, film screenings, food stands and street entertainers to round out this annual summer spectacle (15-16 July. www.neapolis.it).
  • Wander through the Borgo degli Orefici, Naples' gold quarter, an intricate maze of urban alleys between Via Marin and Corso Umberto, studded with tiny, family-run jewellery stores.
  • Head to Ravello, where the lush public gardens make a fairytale destination. Take the SITA bus from Via Pisanelli to Amalfi, then transfer to a local bus to Ravello. It's well worth the twisty ride up the steep mountainside.

Tips

  • You may see merchants playing cards behind the counter when you are out shopping. Naples has its own 40-card deck, and several traditional games, such as scopa.
