Airport Information


  • Holiday Taxis (easyJet.holidaytaxis.com) take you from home to the airport, then city or destination.

  • Catch bus 84 from Terminal 1 and bus 284 from Terminal 2. They leave every 10-15 minutes and take about 30 minutes to get to the city. Tickets: BGN1.

  • Visit the Europcar desk on arrival for special easyJet inflight rates.

  • The white vans are called marshrutkas and number 30 goes to the centre. Tickets: BGN1.50.

  • A journey to the centre takes 30 minutes and costs about BGN14.

  • The Ethnographic Museum shop contains folk costumes, traditional crockery, ethno jewellery and music CDs. It's one of the best places to buy Bulgarian kilims - authentic and affordable handwork (1 Aleksandar Batenberg Ploshtad).
  • Ultimate metal band Biohazard are performing at Universiada Hall this month (12 July. 2 Shipchenski Prohod Bulevard).
  • The National Museum of History, in the Boyana district, at the foothills of Vitosha Mountain, houses the most important information and artefacts from the country's long history.
  • Head to the district of Knyazhevo, in the south-western part of Sofia. Here the Vladayska River divides the Vitosha and Lyulin mountains - it makes an idyllic escape from the city.

  • The inventor of the first electronic computer, John Vincent Atanasoff, is of Bulgarian origin. He and Clifford Berry worked on their prototype at Iowa State University until 1942.
