CHARLIE’S ANGELS
There’s no getting away from the fact that the ’70s is the era that has inspired designers this spring. At DKNY, model’s sashayed down the runway in killer wedges, block colour maxi dresses and wide brim sunhats. Steal your wardrobe inspiration from cult ’70s TV series Charlie’s Angels —opt for tailored trousers (wide legs are a must), fitted shirts and the obligatory oversized sunhat or if you’re feeling brave enough, try a cut away swimsuit complete with heels and lashings of lip-gloss as seen here at Michael Kors.
We’re loving…
Marion Cotillard
Quirky, impish and naturally chic, Parisian born actress Marion Cotillard is fashion’s new darling. With an Oscar nomination tucked firmly under her belt for her portrayal of French singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, she’s now set to become a style icon. She first zoomed onto the style radar earlier this year when she stepped on to the red carpet in a Chanel flapper dress.
We’re laughing…
Carla Bruni
Once a member of the supermodel set who wouldn’t get out of bed for less than £10,000, Carla Bruni has traded the catwalk for the political arena. Blissfully in love with her new husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, and once the arm candy to some of the world’s most famous rockers (she famously dated Mick Jagger during his marriage to Jerry Hall) we expect more from her at a public appearance than old jeans and a knitted jumper.
Multi stack bangles
Fashion has finally found a new accessory obsession, and thank god as we were all sick of the graphic necklace, studded belt and cocktail ring. The bangle is back, but this time one isn’t enough, stack them up like there’s no tomorrow, all the way to your elbow if you can manage it. For extra fashion kudos try mixing and matching colour, shape and weight, a la Pucci.
Renowned for his use of bold colour and print, Matthew Williamson was the inspiration behind Europe’s ‘boho chic’ boom. He famously persuaded his friends Kate Moss and Helena Christensen into modelling his debut catwalk collection, in 1997, and he is now one of the most sought after British designers in the world. The Urbis Exhibition Centre brings his ten-year retrospective to his hometown this month Matthew Williamson: Ten years in fashion at The Urbis, Manchester, www.urbis.org.uk, 27th March—21st September
